Traveler’s Journal Workshop (Midori style notebook)

In this workshop you will learn about the varieties of this very versatile book structure. With the traveler’s journal, you are able to freely add and remove pages in your book.

We will be constructing the covers which can be made with a variety of materials such as fabric, vinyl, heavy paper, canvas and more.

You can decide what kinds of papers you would like to include in your book and select those as well to create your signatures for the journal.

After finishing the assembly of the book, we will play with embellishing using charms, buttons, pockets, beads, fibers and more!

In this class, we will construct a book structure that is practical and functional. All pages open flat and are perfect for journaling, sketching, painting, collaging and more!

This is an intermediate class—having prior book making experience will be helpful. Creating these gems, you will discover that each step in the process is an exciting, fun voyage!

Kits will be provided for the class which include the cover and spine boards, your choice of fabric for covers and quality writing paper for signatures.

Join us for a workshop jammed packed with mixed media techniques and play as we begin working with one of my favorite materials, canvas paper.

Starting with collaging our sheets and using a variety of different mediums. We will build up layer after layer on our canvas creations. Exploring color, design, contrast and more our pieces will take on texture and vibrancy.

When our canvas sheets are complete, we will begin to create our own pieces which may include—artist portfolios with hinged inside pocket, multiple signature book, small notebooks/journals, credit card holders, greeting cards, folded wallet and more!

While we wait for our canvas pieces to dry in between layers, we’ll explore and experiment with some modern variation versal letterforms.

Through inspiration and technique, you will find your own unique signature as an artist.

Walnut Ink Play!

In this workshop we will explore the exciting options and variety of walnut ink in your work. Adding water to walnut ink crystals, we will experiment with color intensity and texture.

Working with a variety of papers and materials, we will complete finished items including pocket portfolios, tags, pockets, gift card holders, greeting cards, books, and more!

After we create our finished pieces, we will play with embellishing them using a variety of items—attachers, beads, charms, ribbon, rub-ons, washi tape and more!

In this workshop, we’ll start with blank sheets and refine our process as we layer. Starting with basic collage, we will begin the practice of our journey into a dynamic and exciting world of layering, painting, and design. We will be using a multitude of mixed media techniques, materials and pigments. While our pages dry in between layers, we will be playing with textures, color, approaches, products and a variety of methods that you can apply to your sheets.

Along this journey, be will be exploring an abundance of simple yet dramatic mixed media effects to add to your creative tool box.

Once your masterpieces are complete, the finished sheets can be torn down for handmade book covers, greeting cards, art journaling, ATC’s, tags and more.

In this workshop, we will be exploring the exciting art of painting on fabric. We will be working with textiles such as muslin, canvas and cotton.

Join us for an enjoyable and addicting journey into the exploration of color, techniques and design as we create our masterpieces. Working with a variety of different inks and acrylic paints, we will turn an ordinary piece of fabric into stunning art forms.

Finished works can be used to create book covers and pages, journals, wall hangings, aprons, embellishments for greeting cards, pillow covers, tote bags and more!

Pay a visit to your stash and bring your favorite papers. We will transform them into envelopes, pockets, wallets, books, pamphlets, and more. Once started, it is hard to stop! You will want to make more.

In this workshop we will be creating our books from ordinary, economical canvas fabric. We will start with layering the fabric using inks, acrylics and a variety of other mediums to give the canvas body, structure and texture. We will use stencils and masks along with an array of techniques and approaches to creating our masterpieces. The bindings of the book will be your choice of a variety of optional methods which will be presented. Join in for this fun and creative process!
